The cloth
For a festival day, from morning through a long meal, this is solid navy, unpatterned and fully covered, cut as a covered duster. The velvet stays opaque. Band collar, snapped to the throat. Snaps close the collar and the front, one after another. A quilted yoke sits over a smoother body, so the shoulder has a little structure. The hem falls to the ankle and still covers past mid-calf. The cut leaves room for layers.
