The cloth
For a festival day, from morning through a long meal, this is a tonal damask medallion woven into ink cloth, cut as a covered duster. The velvet stays opaque. Band collar, snapped to the throat. Snaps close the collar and the front, one after another. A narrow piping line finds the collar, the front edge, and the hem, then stops. The hem meets the floor. It is a layer with room, sized the way the rest of the house is sized.
Opaque velvet in ink, with a low sheen and a dense pile. The damask sits in the cloth, not on a thin ground.
